Galen's
bio
A
three-year-old boy sits beside his mother and learns to draw the difficult, magical shapes that
she says will let him speak to his beloved grandmother hundreds of
miles away. "Hi gran".
Since
childhood, I have been fascinated by the power of words to connect
people, and have been mentored in the craft of writing by an
editor and three authors.
My
curiosity and vision have always drawn me to the leading edge in various fields.
First, my early passion for science and technology led me to earn a Bachelor of
Science degree (University of Western Ontario). I consulted in the computer industry for nine years in database
development and system simulations (Nortel, Nova Pipelines, Phillips
Petroleum, City of
Calgary).
Next, my love of nature and my vision for a healthy planet led me to work in the health food
industry on a board of directors and in customer service.
Then my
work in filmmaking showed me the critical need to connect with
the audience. Recently, I studied film and semiotics, the science of how meaning is
created, in order to get
inside the mind of the viewer (University of Toronto).
Meanwhile, my
commitment to life-long learning and personal development led me to
meditation and other self-awareness disciplines, giving me the
insight of an outside perspective.
I now live in Victoria, BC, drawing together the threads of my life to help leading-edge
organizations create connection.
